So, Simmons has cancelled the remainder of our trip. We have received the college's official decision that the course is no longer being conducted here, and we are all under instruction to return to Boston as soon as possible. In Boston, Hugo is supposed to figure out how to teach the rest of the course there.
I am so incredibly disappointed. I can't believe this is happening. We just got off of a conference call with someone from Simmons, relating our frustration and trying to figure out if there's any way to continue part of this.
This just absolutely sucks on so many levels.

OMG, I'm so sorry Ann! That must be so incredibly disappointing for you. I hope you have safe travels back.
ReplyDeleteThat is SUCKY. Can't you refuse to get on the plane? Don't they realize that lots of people LIVE there, and they can't leave...?
ReplyDeleteTim just told me, I'm so sorry! Have a safe trip back.
ReplyDeleteAnn,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your trip being cancelled and hope they're able to allow you to stay there.
Have a safe trip home,
Linsey
Thanks, guys. Casey, they are saying that if any of us refuse to get on a plane and don't go all the way back to Boston, there will be professional repercussions for Hugo (our professor). It's feeling a little manipulative.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to explain more when you come home, but I don't understand why they are doing this to you. Unless they are legally responsible for you and didn't have you sign waivers or something...in which case, I'd say, we want to stay so fax over some waivers. Or are they afraid of being in the news if something happened to you?
ReplyDeleteOr what if you decided to make the best out of a crappy situation and the fact that you have the time off, and rerouted your plane ticket to Germany or France or whatever...you actually have to report back to BOSTON, or else? So weird.
Kristin, I can give you more details when I'm home, but basically Simmons is operating from a liability perspective. Waivers or no waivers. Before we left, we signed general contracts promising to not sue Simmons or any affiliated parties. And in response to this situation, we offered to sign additional, explicit waivers in order to stay. But it's apparently not an option.
ReplyDeleteRerouting plane tickets is also not an option-- you are correct that we are required to report back to Boston. Or else. Ridiculous...
